This page is dedicated to the memory of:
Marine Engineering Artificer 2
Geoffrey Leslie John Stockwell
HMS Coventry
Stuart Pryke
I am an ex Kent College school chum of Geoff. We were form mates right through school and he was my opposite wing in the hockey 1st team. He was a day boy and lived in Whitstable, I was a boarder and lived in Kuwait. Weekends were tough for us kids from abroad but Geoff and his folks were very good to me. A group of us ended up in the 6th form riding a mixed bag of Bantams, Triumph, Bonnies and a Trident. I recall Geoff was key to all matters Whitstable, bike and having fun – a top guy.
I went to his memorial service, it was the third one I’d been to. We were the same age he’d joined the Navy and I decided to go flying, I lost two mates in crashes and then my buddy Geoff.
I often think of him. I sail a lot and thank the Lord for my longevity.
I am a Check pilot for a major airline, and though I am now over sixty I see Geoff as a mad young adult just full of vigour.
A sad loss…
