Based in the Royal Maritime Club (formerly the Royal Sailors Home Club) in Portsmouth, Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) has been providing a monthly Drop-In facility for ex-serviceman and their direct family members since July 2008.

Founded in July 2008 after the 25th Anniversary Falklands pilgrimage, VOS began as a peer support group. Founding members Dr Morgan O’Connell, John (Joe) Erskine and David Watts, all Falklands veterans themselves, together with Ann Townsend, whose son was sadly killed in the conflict, wanted to create an informal environment for Service veterans, where they could access a range of support services.

The Drop-In now welcomes ex-service personnel from all services and operational backgrounds, including the Merchant Navy. VOS receives over 500 visits a year, with an average of 45 service users visiting each month.

Significant funding support from the Armed Forces Covenant LIBOR fund in 2013 enabled VOS to become a registered charity, in order to grow its expertise and capability. Today VOS has a permanent office and therapy room in the Royal Maritime Club and delivers weekly therapy sessions to those who need it most.

VOS has now secured generous continuation funding from a number of military charities to continue to deliver its invaluable service to veterans and their families for the foreseeable future. Our work is funded by the generous support of the larger military charities.

The VOS Drop-In takes place on the first Wednesday of every month from 2pm to 6pm (last registrations at 5.30pm) in the Royal Maritime Club, Queen Street, Portsmouth.

The Drop-In is a welcoming and relaxed place for UK veterans and their direct family members to come for confidential welfare or psychological support or simply to meet for a sociable chat.  You do not need to make a prior appointment – just Drop-In!

When you arrive you will be greeted with a friendly smile by one of our volunteer reception team who will ask how we can help you.

drop-in-2We have a comfortable veterans lounge, where you can enjoy a cup of tea and talk with other veterans or one of our volunteers, whilst you wait for your appointments.

The Drop-In is staffed by volunteers, most of whom are veterans who have taken their own journey through VOS.  They are available to talk to and support and assist you to access the Drop-In services that you need.

The Drop-In is attended by a number of Welfare, Wellbeing and Mental Health organisations.  Follow the links for further information on who and what is available on the day for advice and support.

drop-in-3If you need to contact us outside of the Drop-In day please contact the VOS office.
